Oral and dental health is an inseparable part of overall health. Dental cleaning refers to daily routines performed to maintain oral hygiene, prevent bad breath, and protect dental health. After eating, teeth become contaminated with food particles, bacteria, and plaque buildup. Therefore, daily dental cleaning is essential to prevent cavities, gum diseases, and other oral health problems.

Dental cleaning is achieved through options such as brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash. Daily brushing helps remove plaque and food residues from tooth surfaces, flossing cleans plaque from hard-to-reach areas between teeth, and mouthwash reduces bacteria and helps prevent bad breath.

Professional dental cleaning is also very important and should be performed regularly every six months or once a year, depending on the patient. During routine examinations, plaque and tartar buildup are removed and gum health is maintained. Dental cleaning is a vital part of our lives. Without regular, hygienic, and effective cleaning, dental health can be negatively affected. To maintain healthy teeth, we must prioritize both individual and professional dental care.

COMMON MISTAKES IN DENTAL CLEANING
Dental cleaning is important for maintaining oral health, but incorrect practices can harm the teeth.

• Insufficient Brushing Time: Brushing too briefly prevents proper cleaning. The recommended duration is at least 2 minutes, twice a day. Choose a soft or medium-bristle toothbrush.

• Incorrect Brushing Technique: Back-and-forth brushing can cause plaque buildup; circular or vertical motions are recommended.

• Wrong Toothbrush Choice: Hard-bristle brushes can harm gums. Medium-soft bristles are safer.

• Skipping Dental Floss: Not using floss leaves plaque and food residues between teeth. Flossing is essential for interdental cleaning.

• Mouthwash Misuse: Mouthwash helps reduce bacteria and freshen breath.

• Over-brushing the Same Area: Excessive brushing in one area may damage gums. Brush all teeth evenly.

• Not Replacing the Toothbrush: Replace your toothbrush every 3–4 months.

• Not Cleaning Teeth After Colored/Acidic Drinks: Tea, coffee, and acidic beverages can stain and damage enamel. Clean the teeth after consuming such drinks.

• Poor Diet: Avoid sugary and acidic foods. Eat fruits, vegetables, milk, and whole grains for healthier teeth.

• Skipping Dental Check-ups: Visit a dentist at least twice a year to detect problems early and maintain oral health.
